Never Giving Up

Equality is never easy to achieve, it is a war that goes on forever, yet many seem to forget that. Oh sure, we may win the right to marry in this city, that state, and even across nations, but it is never a true victory. The foe does not give up, does not accept defeat.

Democracy exists because people continue to fight for it, are constantly willing to die for it. Without that, it would not exist, and simply saying we have won rights here, or there, does not mean the war is over. Merely that one battle has been won, with more battles still to come.

In the last decade, we have lost more than we have won, thanks to fear, and the personal agendas of people like George W. Bush and Stephen Harper. Basic freedoms are at risk, because we have let our fears, rule. Equality, Religious Freedom, Civil Liberties, exist only if we are willing to fight for them, to fight despite our fears.

That is why terrorists are winning in Afghanistan, Iraq, and in the world. We have fallen victim to our fears, instead of simply fighting for our believes, for our principle.
